Information was scant in this obit/memorial. It stated he had died at his home in the Choptack district of Hawkins Co., TN on Mary 3rd, at age 70.  The rest was a eulogy of sorts extolling how fine a man he had been and would be missed by the community.

TERRY LINE IN THE SHANKS-PRICE-TERRY FAMILY BIBLE

The bible marriage page was for Thomas Jefferson Shanks and Elizabeth Price, daughter of Isaac Price.

The children listed included a daughter Mattie Jane SHANKS who married Charles Newton Terry.

These TERRY children were listed as :

Walter, b. 1901

Jos b. 1906

McLouis b. 1909

Reid, b. 1914

Pauling, b.

Infant, b. 1917 or 1919 (hard to read if a "7" or a "9")

Charles Newton Terry was son of Fred Terry son of a William and Nancy Terry, according to some trees.

Part of the PRICE line and the TERRY line appear to have funneled through the Botetourt County-Montogomery County and the later Greene County made from part of those earlier counties. It is feasible some SHANKS may have also do this.

Many of these lines appear to have originated further east, along the Virginia and Carolina coastal regions. So it is possible this group of TERRY's may reflect the Haplogroup I-01 linked to a strong line that was in those areas and then supplanted two other lines in the Botetourt and Montgomery Co., Va areas as many sought opportunities into the Kentucky and Tennessee frontiers.

I will be interested in learning which Haplogroup these descendants of Charles Newton Terry fall into; there are three a Terry G-02, a Terry I-01, a Terry 1-02.

The Family of Thomas Jefferson SHANKS and Elizabeth PRICE

The Family of Charles Newton TERRY and Martha Jane SHANKS "Maudie"

SHANKS-PRICE-TERRY BIBLE (Rogersville, Hawkins Co., TN): Part 1

A researcher sent to me a very old family bible with pages in it for marriages, births, etc. The researcher was not sure why or how the Bible had come into the hands of his family but he wondered if I would be interested in it and then share the information found.  The Bible is an old oversize type Bible, a type popular during the 1870's to early 1900's with a few Dore style illustrations. Some pages are beginning to crumble, the publisher information part of the cover sheet is largely missing (so no publisher or date).  There was a section of 4 pages for family records.

Page 1 of the section is of information about the marriage of Thomas Jefferson SHANKS and Elizabeth PRICE.  They married at the home of the bride's father, Isaac PRICE on 3 January 1869. Witnesses were: Henry C. SHANKS. Isaac PRICE and possibly the clergy marrying them, John Altom, Esp.

Page 2 of the family section is a list of SHANKS born to the union:
