SUSANNAH TERRY BROWN: BOTETOURT COUNTY, VIRGINIA


 Susannah was the daughter of William Terry and Rachel Manson Terry, born in Botetourt Co., Va.  She married Thomas Brown.

On 20 April 1818 a document was written concerning an "indenture of bargain". In the document, the heirs of the obviously deceased Susannah are named, her parentage affirmed and the names of her children's female spouses included. The original of this handwritten document was acquired from Botetourt County Circuit Court from Deed Book 13, pg 276.

Her heirs are listed in an indention of bargain document. Identifies the land she inherited as being the 1755 acres gained by William Terry, "one-eighth part of a tract of land containing three hundred acres lying in the County of Botetourt an Black River a branch of the Roanoke River, being part of a large tract of four hundred acres  patented to William Terry  by patent bearing date of September 1755"

Notes Susannah had died without a will designating her 1/8 disposal thus the legal document. Lists eight children who inherited "left eight children one of whom Susannah Terry married Thomas Brown"

"And became the mother of "Henry Brown, Esther Brown  Blain (Mrs. William), Keziah Brown Hannon (Hannan) (Mrs. John), Mary Brown Thompson (Mrs.?)". Deed Bk13, pg.276.

Those signing the document were: Henry Brown, Wm Blain, Easter Brown Blain, John Hannon, Keziah Brown Hannon, and Mary Brown Thompson.
